With vintage feather trees becoming quite fashionable for Christmas, manufacturers are now creating modern replica’s in various forms and sizes. But read on to discover the history of vintage feather trees….
HISTORY OF VINTAGE FEATHER TREES FOR CHRISTMAS: In the mid 19th century, the German forests were in danger, and cutting down the trees for Christmas was banned as reforestation efforts arose. That’s when the first artificial Christmas trees were invented. “Feather Trees” were actually fashioned to look like Christmas trees using goose feathers. Although they may look a little scrawny, they were modeled after the living trees found in the German forests, which in natural forest environment sometimes have this slightly sparse look. In time, feathers were no longer used, but the next generation of artificial trees continued to be called Feather Trees, and maintained the sparse look (as compared to artificial Christmas trees manufacturer today which are much fuller in appearance). The interest in vintage feather trees has been reborn in recent years, and there is quite a collector’s market for them. There is something so quaint and charming about having a vintage feather tree in your home for Christmas.
