DIY Christmas Decor – Luminaries are created using frosted cylinder vases and white twinkle lights.

Loosely coil a single strand of clear mini-lights on a white cord in each vase. Run the plug end over the back edge of the vase and behind it so the cord is out of view.  Of course, always use lights that have been safety tested (read the label), and always unplug the strand when the display is left unattended.

This idea is great for a stand alone vase, but looks even better when vases of varying sizes are grouped, as shown above.  When combining vases into a group, always use odd numbers for the most powerful visual effect.

You could also use vases of the same height and display them in a row for a different look.

The bottoms of these vases have gold ribbon wrapped around the bottoms and affixed with double-sided tape. A second ribbon (narrow) is the fastened over the first to give more visual interest.

Such an easy DIY Christmas decor idea, but it looks so sophisticated!  Photo Credit: Martha Stewart

Christmas Decorating Ideas – Hanging Snowflakes From the Ceiling http://christmasdecorated.com/christmas-decorating-ideas-hanging-snowflakes-from-the-ceiling/ http://christmasdecorated.com/christmas-decorating-ideas-hanging-snowflakes-from-the-ceiling/#respond Mon, 26 Nov 2012 09:42:20 +0000 http://christmasdecorated.com/?p=372

Wow. Just WOW.This looks amazing. One of the best Christmas decorating ideas we’ve come across this year.

A professional interior decorator shows you how she decorates her own home for Christmas and transforms it into an asbolute winter wonderland by hanging large snowflakes from her ceiling. Its the kind of thing you’d see at a high end Christmas gala. LOVE THIS.

This isn’t mentioned in the video, but, according to the designer, the snowflakes are hung with off-white sewing thread. You could use clear thread like fishing line but it isn’t recommended because it captures the light reflection and as a result is actually more noticable than the sewing thread. Use a color that best matches your ceiling paint color. Also, the designer in the video uses T-pins – never nails! T-pins leave much smaller holes in the ceiling than nails would.

Exquisite.

A Christmas wreath decorated with green apples from Good Housekeeping.  Make it:  Purchase a 16-inch grapevine wreath and ornamental green apples. Use a hot glue gun to affix the apples, spacing them equally around the ring. Select an assortment of seasonal greens and pinecones, and whatever else strikes your fancy, and weave them into the grapevine, filling in the areas between the apples. Greenery can be faux or fresh.

Make a Christmas Door Decoration http://christmasdecorated.com/make-a-christmas-door-decoration/ http://christmasdecorated.com/make-a-christmas-door-decoration/#respond Thu, 22 Nov 2012 08:43:54 +0000 http://christmasdecorated.com/?p=359

Make a Christmas Door Decoration like the type professional florists charge big dollars for. This is a teardrop swag for the front door, and its a nice alternative to a round wreath when you want to change things up a bit, and yet still remain quite traditional.

You will need to start with the tear drop swag made from fresh evergreens. You can usually get these from a local grower or a florist shop – then plain, undecorated ones aren’t expensive (its all the labor that goes into decorating that drives the price up). Stores like Home Depot may have them, as well as many places that sell live Christmas trees. Now watch the video to learn how to get the lavishly decorated look that florists know how to create…

DIY Christmas Decor – Lighted Christmas Gift http://christmasdecorated.com/diy-christmas-decor-lighted-christmas-gift/ http://christmasdecorated.com/diy-christmas-decor-lighted-christmas-gift/#respond Mon, 19 Nov 2012 06:17:55 +0000 http://christmasdecorated.com/?p=152 DIY Christmas Decor Project - Lighted Christmas Gift

ChristmasDecorated.com

A Christmas decor DIY project – a large rectangular glass vase is filled with clear mini-lights, then two types of gold ribbon are wrapped around the vase – a wide gold organza ribbon and a more narrow gold satin ribbon, alternating the two. The effect is that of a wrapped gift box. Faux pointsettia blooms are placed at the mouth of the vase, concealing the lights. Plug the lights in from the back so the cord is concealed and watch the gift light up and glow from within. A great Christmas decor accent you can make yourself to create a interesting focal point and bathe your room in a beautiful glow. Copyright ThatCupcakeSite.com.

Two-Piece Christmas Wreath http://christmasdecorated.com/two-piece-christmas-wreath/ http://christmasdecorated.com/two-piece-christmas-wreath/#respond Wed, 14 Nov 2012 01:09:40 +0000 http://christmasdecorated.com/?p=95 Two-Piece Christmas Wreath

Two Piece Christmas Wreath

For something really new and unique, try a Two-Piece Christmas Wreath to decorate a double-front door this holiday season. Do It Yourself:  Use a wreath with a sturdy base so it holds its shape. Fresh evergreen was used here, but a grapevine wreath will work just as well. Cut the wreath in half lengthwise with sturdy wire clippers. Use florist wire to attach evergreen clippings, fruits, and ribbons. Securely hang one half of the wreath on each door so the two meet in the center when the doors are closed. Very, very cool. Outdoor Christmas Decorations for Pillar http://christmasdecorated.com/outdoor-christmas-decorations-for-pillar/ http://christmasdecorated.com/outdoor-christmas-decorations-for-pillar/#respond Wed, 14 Nov 2012 00:59:42 +0000 http://christmasdecorated.com/?p=89 Outdoor Christmas Decorations for Pillar

An outdoor pillar is decorated with a festive Christmas arrangement. Do It Yourself: Fill a wide, shallow planter with a mix of your choice of flowers and greens. In this case the designers used pansies, flowering cabbage, cedar, fir, lavender, and rosemary trimmed to resemble a Christmas tree. Tuck in ornaments and oversize pinecones to add color and fill in gaps. Source: Southern Living.
